Power Poll 8/11/10: Better late than never

By ThinkSoJoE | August 13th, 2010

Power Poll 8/11/10: Better late than never edition

1. The Miz (5)

The United States Champion nearly took Evan Bourne’s head off, then convinced John Cena and Bret Hart to tell him that they need him.  Mr. Money In The Bank returns to the number one slot on the Power Poll because he’s The Miz, and he’s AWESOME!

2. John Cena (4)

John Cena managed to even out the playing field with The Nexus this week with the return of Edge and Chris Jericho to Team WWE.

3. Rob Van Dam (8)

Mr. Pay Per View proved it in a hell of a match with longtime ECW rival Sabu at HardCORE Justice.  Rob Van Dam carries the TNA World Heavyweight Championship back up the rankings with him this week.

4. Sheamus (3)

The Fellabration continues, although the WWE Champion slips to number 4 in this week’s Power Poll after being shown up by Randy Orton.  Destroying the NXT Rookies probably prevented him from slipping further.

5. Randy Orton (1)

Meanwhile, the number one contender drops from the number one spot in our poll.  Running Sheamus off doesn’t help The Viper stay at the top.

6. Kane (2)

The lowest ranked World Champion this week is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Kane.  Does Rey Mysterio’s accusation that Kane is behind The Undertaker’s attack have anything to do with The Big Red Monster’s dramatic drop this week?

7. Rey Mysterio (7)

Rey Mysterio may or may not be behind the attack on The Undertaker, but one thing’s for sure, he’s behind number 7 for a second straight week here in the Power Poll.

8. Chris Jericho (6)

After a run-in with The Nexus during RAW’s main event, Chris Jericho re-joined Team WWE.  He also dropped two spots in the Power Poll.   I’d say you’re either Nexus or you’re against us, but I don’t see Wade Barrett and Co. anywhere on this list.

9. Dolph Ziggler (NR)

To further prove that all you have to do to get yourself on the Power Poll is win a championship, Dolph Ziggler won the Intercontinental Championship on Friday Night, now finding himself ranked at number 9.

10. Edge (NR)

Returning to the list this week is another man who re-joined Team WWE after a brawl with The Nexus, The Rated R Superstar, Edge.

Power Poll 8/4/10: O, here he comes.

By ThinkSoJoE | August 4th, 2010

I missed the deadline to submit this week, but I’ll still give my insight into the rankings, since they don’t vary too drastically from what I submitted.

The No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship has ridden a wave of recent success to become No. 1 in the Power Poll as well.

1. Randy Orton (2)

Orton’s first face turn didn’t go over too well, but this time around the fans love him, and so do the voters in the Power Poll, as the number one contender to the WWE Championship at Summerslam overtakes the number one spot this week.

2. Kane (4)

The World Heavyweight Champion follows Orton in climbing up the charts via a cool promo to kick off SmackDown, and a chokeslam into the Gulf of Mexico on Rey Mysterio to end the show.

3. Sheamus (3)

The WWE Champion stays put on our charts after defeating an old nemesis in Goldust this week on RAW.

4. John Cena (7)

The leader of Team WWE at SummerSlam can’t manage to hold his team together, but he’s managed to climb up the charts with a victory over now former teammate Chris Jericho on RAW.

5. The Miz (1)

With a loss to Randy Orton and no attempt to cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase this week, The Miz drops four spots to number five.

6. Chris Jericho (8)

Despite a bizarre loss to John Cena on RAW, tapping out before Cena could even get his STF locked in, Chris Jericho manages to climb the rankings of the Power Poll.

7. Rey Mysterio (5)

Kane must have gotten lonely being the only non-RAW wrestler so far on the chart, but that changes with the addition of Rey Mysterio at number 7.  Tossing Jack Swagger into the Gulf of Mexico helps Rey stay afloat in the top 10.

8. Rob Van Dam (6)

The TNA World Champion saved Eric Bischoff’s hide from Abyss’s girl Janice, and that saves him from disappearing from the Power Poll.

9. Wade Barrett (10)

Barrett held his own in a match with Edge, even avoiding a Spear attempt before trying to sick the Nexus on his opponent to no avail.

10. C.M. Punk (NR)

The Straight Edge Savior reveals that his arm is just fine before attempting to destroy the right hand of The Big Show on SmackDown, and that catapults him into the Power Poll.

Power Poll 7/28/10: Awesome feat

By ThinkSoJoE | July 29th, 2010

Power Poll 7/28/10

Well, I ignored iMPACT, slept through SmackDown, and wrote off RAW, so I guess that makes me perfectly qualified to vote in this week’s Power Poll.  We have a new number one this week, and he is….

1. The Miz (3)

He may still have his Money In The Bank briefcase despite another attempt to cash it in, but The Miz impressed voters enough this week to catapult himself up two spots to number one – because he’s The Miz, and he’s AWESOME!  (My vote:  5)

2. Randy Orton (4)

A take no prisoners week for the WWE’s Apex Predator, Orton defeated Jey Uso, RKO’d Sheamus, and then for good measure RKO’d The Miz as well.  (My vote:  1)

3. Sheamus (2)

The WWE Champion caught an RKO earlier on in the night, but picked up a tag team victory later in the night when his reluctant partner The Miz pinned John Cena.  (My vote:  3)

4. Kane (1)

After RAW dominates the top three, SmackDown’s World Heavyweight Champion, Kane, takes his place on the Power Poll at number four.  A promo to kick off the show and a no-sell of a Mysterio 619 keeps the Big Red World Champion from dropping any further.  (My vote:  4)

5. Rey Mysterio (8)

Speaking of Mysterio, he climbs up the Power Poll after a victory over Jack Swagger in a two out of three falls match to become the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.  (My vote:  NR)

6. Rob Van Dam (5)

Despite not doing anything of note (seriously – he’s not even mentioned in Drow’s iMPACT review), Rob Van Dam only drops one spot, and is in fact the only member of the TNA roster to be featured in this week’s poll.  (My vote:  2)

7. John Cena (6)

Cena has been strong on the mic the last few weeks, including his show opening promo with Chris Jericho this week on RAW.  Had Jericho not hit him with the Codebreaker and cost him their tag match, the former WWE Champion’s ranking would likely be much higher.  (My vote:  6)

8. Chris Jericho (10)

Chris Jericho continues to climb the ranks of the Power Poll this week, having been an awesome foil to John Cena in both the opening segment and the closing matchup of RAW.  (My vote:  7)

9. Big Show (NR)

Having fun at the expense of the Straight Edge Society, Big Show unmasked Joey Mercury, and unmasks his ability to be a top 10 player in sports entertainment after a couple weeks off the Poll.  (My vote:  9)

10. Wade Barrett (7)

Evan Bourne is not even half the size of Mark Henry, so slamming him to the canvas is not nearly as impressive a feat.  Barrett makes the top ten on the sheer fact that he’s the leader of The Nexus.  (My vote:  10)

I also voted for: AJ Styles (8)

Power Poll 7/21/10: That’s got to be Kane!

By ThinkSoJoE | July 22nd, 2010

Power Poll 7/21/10: That’s got to be Kane!

1. Kane (NR)

The Big Red Monster had a pretty good night on Sunday, winning and subsequently cashing in the SmackDown Money In The Bank contract to become the new World Heavyweight Champion, at the expense of Rey Mysterio (my vote:  1)

2. Sheamus (4)

Meanwhile, the WWE Championship has remained in the possession of one man – Sheamus.  Despite interference from The Nexus on Sunday and a close call with RAW Money In The Bank winner The Miz, the first Irish-born WWE Champion has managed to hang on to his title.  (my vote:  2)

3. The Miz (6)

Speaking of RAW’s Mr. Money In The Bank, The Miz has shown that he’s a threat to the WWE Championship at any moment.  If it weren’t for R-Truth, Miz would be in the top two right now.  (my vote: 3)

4. Randy Orton (2)

The new number one contender for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam has also become a superstar on Twitter, hitting the Trending Topics for a second straight week and then joining the microblogging service himself.  (my vote:  10)

5. Rob Van Dam (1)

While he didn’t do enough this week to keep his spot at the top of the list, TNA’s World Champion’s aligning with the invading former ECW members seems to be enough to keep him in the top 5.  (my vote:  5)

6. John Cena (5)

Despite losing due to Nexus interference in the steel cage match at Money In The Bank, John Cena redeemed himself the following night on RAW, putting together a team of WWE All-stars to battle The Nexus at SummerSlam.  (my vote: 4)

7. Wade Barrett (9)

The leader of the Nexus showed that he can handle himself in a one on one situation as he put down the World’s Strongest Man on RAW.  (my vote:  6)

8. Rey Mysterio (10)

The former World Champion had a strong showing in a victory over Jack Swagger at Money In The Bank before dropping the title to Kane in an impromptu match.  (my vote:  NR)

9. Kurt Angle (8)

Doing nothing of note this week, Kurt Angle drops slightly in our rankings.  (my vote:  NR)

10. Chris Jericho (NR)

Jericho’s decision to join forces with John Cena and his group at SummerSlam has impressed our voters enough to earn him a spot in this week’s Power Poll (my vote: NR)

Others voted for by me: Samoa Joe (7), John Morrison (8), and Kofi Kingston (9)

Dropped out: Jack Swagger, Edge

Also receiving votes: Samoa Joe, Jay Lethal, Jack Swagger, Abyss, Edge, Ted DiBiase (Jr.), Neutronic, Evan Bourne, Mascarita Dorada, John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, Cody Rhodes, Vegetative Undertaker, Jeff Hardy, Nexus

2010 “Victory Road” Round Table

By Drowgoddess | July 9th, 2010

TNA’s “Victory Road” pay-per-view of 2008 took place in my city, Houston, Texas, and was a rather awesome show. “Victory Road” of 2009 was quite possibly the worst wrestling ppv in the history of wrestling ppvs, with the possible exception of “Halloween Havoc.” At which end of the ppv quality spectrum will the 2010 version of “Victory Road” prove to be? Find out for yourselves on the night of Sunday, July 11th. In the meantime, let’s take a look at what several of our Bored Wrestling Fans think!

Power Poll 6/30/10: Fellabration time

By ThinkSoJoE | June 30th, 2010

Yours truly missed the deadline to submit this week despite reminding myself constantly. Here’s this week’s power poll with comments from Jason Mann of WrestlePerspective!

1. Sheamus (Last week: 3)
The WWE champion vaults to the top spot in the Power Poll thanks to his fine, fellariffic promos, his strong win against Mark Henry and his ability to keep his working papers in order.

2. Kurt Angle (4)
Angle has moved up the Power Poll rankings much quicker than he has in the TNA top 10 after a win in a stellar match against Desmond Wolfe.

3. Rob Van Dam (2)
The TNA champion again did little on Impact, other than be attacked by Abyss, but his strong showings during his title reign have kept him from slipping, yet.

4. Rey Mysterio (1)
Mysterio was absent from this week’s Smackdown, presumably still celebrating his World Championship victory, but holding the belt means a lot in these rankings.

5. Abyss (7)
The monster continued his reign of terror, beating Ken Anderson in the main event of Impact and wrecking havoc through the show, in preparation for his big feud with Hulk Hogan.

6. Randy Orton (9)
Despite reportedly being banged up, Orton managed to pick up a victory over Ted DiBiase in the 8-man “mega” tag match on Raw. Isn’t it funny that Orton is becoming so well known for concealing his injuries, while his father’s gimmick was milking them for all they are worth.

7. John Cena (5)
The former champ slides down a bit, but he’ll have a chance to vault up the ranks again in a steel-cage match against Sheamus. That cage should keep those pesky Nexus folks from interfering, I’m sure, because there certainly hasn’t been a cage match in the past 20 years with outside interference.

8. Chris Jericho (NR)
Riding high on his network game show, Jericho seems to have reversed his poor fortune of late and finds a spot on the Power Poll.

9. Jay Lethal (NR)
No one’s been hotter on Impact over the past few weeks than Lethal, and he makes into the Power Poll with a convincing win over Kazarian.

10. Ken Anderson (NR)
Thursday wasn’t his strongest showing, but he’s another TNA character with a strong showing recently and he has a chance to do even better at Victory Road.

Dropped out: The Miz (6), Evan Bourne (8), Kofi Kingston (10)

Also receiving votes: The Miz, Kane, Jack Swagger, C.M. Punk, Kofi Kingston, Sting, Matt Hardy, Bryan Danielson, Cody Rhodes, Evan Bourne, Matt Hardy

Participating sites: BoredWrestlingFan.com, Online World of Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Ponderings, Project Wonderboy, Ringside Rants, WrestleRage.com, Wrestlespective
